Non-Coding RNAs in the Cardiac Action Potential and Their Impact on Arrhythmogenic Cardiac Diseases

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cardiac arrhythmias are prevalent among humans across all age ranges, affecting millions of people worldwide. While cardiac vary widely in their clinical presentation, they possess shared complex electrophysiologic properties at cellular level that have not been fully studied. Over the last decade, our current understanding functional roles non-coding RNAs progressively increased. microRNAs represent most studied type small ncRNAs and it has demonstrated miRNAs play essential multiple biological contexts, including normal development diseases. In this review, we provide a comprehensive analysis contribution RNAs, primarily microRNAs, to configuration action potential, as well association distinct types arrhythmogenic

Long non-coding RNAs and their significance in human diseases

Protein-coding genes account for only a small fraction of the human genome and most of the genomic sequences are transcriptionally silent, but recent observations indicate significant functional elements, including non-coding protein transcripts in the human genome. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been defined as transcripts of >200 nucleotides without protein-coding capacity that perform t...

Long Non-Coding RNAs in Cardiac Remodeling.

Cardiac remodeling occurs after stress to the heart, manifested as pathological processes, including hypertrophy and apoptosis of cardiomyocytes, dysfunction of vascular endothelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells as well as differentiation and proliferation of fibroblasts, ultimately resulting in progression of cardiovascular diseases. Emerging evidence has revealed that long non-coding...

Non-coding RNAs in cardiac regeneration

Developing new therapeutic strategies which could enhance cardiomyocyte regenerative capacity is of significant clinical importance. Though promising, methods to promote cardiac regeneration have had limited success due to the weak regenerative capacity of the adult mammalian heart. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), including microRNAs (miRNAs, miRs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), are functional R...

Non‐coding RNAs in cardiac hypertrophy

Heart failure is one of the largest contributors to disease burden and healthcare outflow in the Western world. Despite significant progress in the treatment of heart failure, disease prognosis remains very poor, with the only curative therapy still being heart transplantation. To counteract the current situation, efforts have been made to better understand the underlying molecular pathways in ...

Non-Coding RNAs in Cardiac Aging.

Aging has a remarkable impact on the function of the heart, and is independently associated with increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. Cardiac aging is an intrinsic physiological process that results in impaired cardiac function, along with lots of cellular and molecular changes. Non-coding RNAs include small transcripts, such as microRNAs and a wide range of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs...
